On the outskirts of Queenstown but a world away from it's touristed streets you'll find a relaxed atmosphere in cosy cottages nestled amongst the vines. Gibbston is within the Central Otago wine region, famous for it's high quality Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris wines. The general store and bistro at Kinross serve as a hub for this small community built on a rural lifestyle and dominated by wine making activities. World renowned winemakers mingle easily with vineyard workers and local families as well as travellers from all over the world. Managers Adam and Lizzie Ross welcome guests at Kinross Cottage's 14 spacious, self contained family and studio cottages near the site of the original Trading Post established in the late 1860's by pioneering Otago farmer, Thomas Kinross. Heritage fruit trees planted on site more than 100 years ago still bear delicious plums, apples and apricots in summer. On a sunny summer's day it's easy to see why early pioneers also chose this spot for community gatherings.
